CLdN Cobelfret is to launch the giant 234 metre MV Celine ro-ro ferry on the Dublin - Rotterdam and Dublin - Zeebrugge routes.
The MV Celine has a capacity of 8,000 lane metres, enabling it to carry around 580 trailers. In order to accomodate the vessel, a purpose built ramp linkspan is currently under construction at Dublin's Ocean Pier in the Alexandra Basin.
In addition, the new vessel draws a maximum depth of 8.1 metres, which means that the port channel must be able to meet the demands of such larger ships for safe navigation and accommodation within the port.
"Brexit is creating a lot of uncertainty and the introduction of the new ship shows the shipping sector beginning to provide additional capacity to create more options for importers and exporters. We expect to see more new services to Continental Europe during 2018."
- Eamonn O’Reilly, chief executive of Dublin Port.
